Below, you will understand how paper production works and what sustainable products you can benefit from.

Trees are vital to humans and animals because they act as both oxygen producers and carbon storage. They also serve as habitats for many creatures, provide food and shade, and beautify our environment. But trees not only have numerous advantages in forest and green space. Wood is an important raw material and has become an indispensable part of the packaging industry. Wood is processed into a variety of products for all areas of our daily life. Below, you will understand how paper production works and what sustainable products you can benefit from.

How is paper actually made?

Paper is made of wood - it's well known. But do you know how this happened? In so-called digestion, wood is broken down into separate fibers in water. Then dry on the sieve to form wool. That's how paper was made thousands of years ago.

Today, paper is still produced in the same way as it was thousands of years ago - hardly free from modern technology. Today, the resulting paper wool is further processed. Remove moisture from wool by draining, pumping, pressing and drying processes and adding natural minerals (additives) to the final product required. Different types of paper are produced with different colors, printing suitability, surface structure and tear resistance. Therefore, paper, cardboard and board are used. The three categories are mainly different in weight, expressed in grams per square meter. Din 6730 is divided into the following according to the gram weight of paper and board:

Paper: 7 - 225 g / m2

Cardboard: from 226 g / m2

For recycled products, waste paper is reprocessed into fibers, called secondary fibers. They are processed into paper, cardboard, or cardboard in turn using the methods described.

Brown or white paper - which is more sustainable?

Anyone who thinks about environmental protection and sustainable packaging will soon think of the image of brown bags, cardboard boxes and cups. However, it is a misconception that the sustainability of white paper is not worse than brown. Both paper is made of renewable raw material wood, which is also easy to recycle! Whether the paper is brown or white depends on whether it has been bleached. However, bleaching of paper fibers does not consume any additional resources, and both colors of products can be recycled equally. As a result, both variants are sustainable and you can choose products according to your personal preferences or order the same products of two colors, such as  "enjoy" paper bags.

We are happy to provide support for your choice and provide you with practical implementation skills!

Paper, cardboard and board products for your industry

Various packaging for the food industry and transportation can be made of wood and different types of paper. They have a lot of difference in their characteristics. Note the items you must pack and learn more about the most important criteria for choosing a package. Whether it's takeout, bakery or logistics - you can find an overview of our products here.

Paper grade of dry products

Uncoated silk or kraft paper is very suitable for the transportation of dry grain. Fine tissue with a weight of less than 30g/m2 is often used for wrapping or covering sensitive products. Kraft paper is a kind of high-strength packaging paper, one side is smooth as velvet, so the hand feels soft. This is particularly suitable for folding bags, as wrapping paper, for hand bags and paper bags for fruit and vegetable counters. In the transportation of goods, filling paper made of recycled waste paper (such as newspaper and printing plant waste) or gray waste paper made from unclassified recycled waste paper is a sustainable way to protect the products in the package.

Oil resistant and solid paper - solid and versatile for your company

The food is usually hot and greasy, and it needs to be packed with oil proof paper or oil proof paper. Kraft paper and tissue paper can also be used for this purpose, provided it has a coating. As an alternative to these coating variants, parchment paper substitutes are also suitable. This is also called oil proof paper, and is an ideal choice for snack bags, baking cans, or cone bags. Smooth parchment paper is safe for food and can prevent the quick immersion of slightly greasy baked goods. Oil resistant grazin paper is a step further. It is used to transport tear resistant and sturdy flat bags for use in or in food sectors for glazes, frying, and fat baking snacks.

Cardboard -- the Almighty man of paper

Besides paper, disposable board tableware is especially suitable for many kinds of packaging. Cardboard is like thick paper, it is made of several layers of paper, which can be coated. The paint layer makes the surface more flat and easier to print. For the food industry, pastry trays, drinks and ice cream cups, as well as suitcases, chocolate boxes and hamburgers boxes are made of cardboard. In the logistics and industry, cardboard is processed into larger and larger boxes and then used for loading and transportation.

Cardboard - stability with or without waves

The strongest material made of paper is cardboard. In the process of production, several nonwoven fabrics are bonded and pressed together to form a very stable material thicker than paper. Cakes and cups for soup and drinks and paper trays for catering are preferably made of cardboard. Wood, cardboard and cardboard have also become indispensable in industry. Corrugated board, for example, is very suitable for sustainable transport packaging, such as cardboard boxes, folding boxes and mailing bags, but also for stable containers and packaging of some products. Corrugated board made of corrugated paper is especially stable, shock absorption and reliable protection of your goods. Corrugated paper made of recycled material is located between two smooth exterior ceilings. The thicker the outer ceiling, the more solid the cardboard is. In addition, corrugated board is divided into one layer, two layers and three layers of cardboard, which depends on how many layers overlap each other. The following applies: the more layers, the more stable the cardboard is.

Do you know, can you tell from inside the box whether it is made of 100% of the original fiber or recycled material? To do this, tear a little bit and look at the color of the middle layer: darker gray fibers represent waste paper. In the food field, the following applies: only cardboard packaging made of fresh fiber is suitable for greasy and humid dishes, even without coating.
