I think that free-to-play games will be charged

We have prototypes for some of our products and RS gold different parts of our games running on various systems. The question of which one we choose is another. Should we put the MMO or all of them onto one console? These are all important questions we need to determine.

The company we work for is a tech and games studio. Out of our staff of 400 around 250 are technical, and that's because we build our own tools to meet everything we require. We do lots of research and development. The task was to develop a software package that could read our code and convert it into an C# version that could be used on the Xbox 360 as well as the Wii.

It was among my main goals as I joined Jagex. We discovered that it was feasible to put our code on consoles. Technically, it's possible. But how do platform holders see the free-to use model? That's a good point, because that's where we're facing challenges right now and these are the topics of discussions we're engaging with platform owners.

My goal is to make every game totally free for all platforms, while maintaining the free-to-play model. I think this is where the industry should be headed, but I don't think that's where they want it to go, given that everything that goes on WiiWare, PSN and XBLA comes with a cost attached to it in some way.

I think that free-to-play games will be charged a minimal fee. This means you have to pay to download the game and, if you want, you can also pay for the premium version. That's the way it appears to be at the moment. However, things are always changing. Of course, I prefer to lobby these businesses to inform them that the preferences are changing, and also to offer free games to help you compete in this field.

How much luck have you had in pitching each platform holder to the idea of free-to-play? I'm not in a position to discuss the details. I would not like to discuss individual companies while we're in the process of discussing them, and nothing has been finalized yet.

Geoff Iddison was the former Jagex CEO. He stated that he was looking to integrate the model of premium subscription and micropayments. How do you feel about the idea. I don't believe you could take a Runescape-type game and add retrofit microtransactions. It's too cheap OSRS gold complex and unworth the effort. While the system may be more profitable, it will still cost players too much.
